FARO CREAFORM has announced the release of MetraSCAN BLACK2, an advanced portable 3D scanner that brings greater flexibility to shop floor dimensional inspection. Designed for quality control and quality assurance applications, the system provides certified metrology-grade accuracy under production conditions and supports multiple inspection workflows within a single platform. This enables manufacturers to improve inspection efficiency, reduce bottlenecks, and maintain high-quality standards throughout the production process.
The MetraSCAN BLACK2 introduces an innovative 3-in-1 metrology solution that seamlessly integrates C-Track scanning, stand-alone scanning, and probing capabilities within a single system. In C-Track mode, users can efficiently inspect large components with high productivity, while the stand-alone mode offers enhanced portability for quick deployment and measurements in confined or hard-to-reach areas. When combined with the HandyPROBE™, the system also enables probing inspections without requiring a separate workflow.
Engineered for higher performance, MetraSCAN BLACK2 features 46 blue laser lines and can capture up to 2.8 million measurements per second, delivering approximately 56% faster scanning speed than its predecessor. The expanded C-Track Flex Volume of 46.7 m³—three times larger than the previous generation—allows manufacturers to inspect larger parts with fewer repositioning steps, improving overall efficiency. Additional enhancements, including automatic shutter technology, single-cable connectivity, and guided setup assistance, further simplify daily operations.
Higher Speed, Greater Flexibility, Certified Accuracy
Compared to the MetraSCAN BLACK+ and BLACK+ Elite, the new generation offers greater mobility through true stand-alone scanning while increasing productivity by supporting simultaneous scanning and probing activities. It also provides higher data density, faster acquisition rates, and greater flexibility for inspecting a wider range of part sizes and production environments. The system undergoes validation in ISO/IEC 17025-accredited calibration laboratories and acceptance testing according to ISO 10360 and VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 standards, ensuring reliable and consistent performance.
